Mr Jaco Londt

Minister of Education

About Jaco

With more than 20 years of experience in South African politics, government and public leadership, Western Cape Minister Jaco Londt is a seasoned public-sector leader with extensive experience spanning legislation, parliamentary oversight, policy development and executive government.

From 2014 to 2024, he served in the National Council of Provinces, contributing to parliamentary oversight across a broad range of strategic portfolios, including Trade and Industry, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism, Employment and Labour, Transport, Public Service and Administration, and Public Works and Infrastructure. He also served briefly in the National Assembly.

In June 2024, Minister Londt was appointed by Premier Alan Winde to the Western Cape Provincial Cabinet as Minister of Social Development. In this role, he championed a solutions-driven approach to some of the province’s most complex social challenges, advancing innovation, resilience and stronger partnerships across government, civil society and the private sector.

His leadership has been grounded in a clear conviction: that effective government must translate policy into meaningful outcomes for people and communities, particularly in times of growing social and economic pressure.

On 20 August 2026, Minister Londt was appointed Western Cape Minister of Education, taking on responsibility for one of the province’s most critical drivers of opportunity, inclusion and long-term social and economic development.
