The Western Cape Education Department extends our best wishes to the Astrovo robotics team from the Cape Academy of Maths, Science and Technology (CAMST) as they prepare to represent South Africa at the prestigious 2025 FIRST Robotics Championship in Houston, Texas!

With their impressive track record, including being the 2025 South African champions, Western Cape champions, and National Inspire Award winners, we have no doubt that they will make their mark on the global stage. We are thrilled to see their dedication, hard work and passion for robotics as they take their place among the world's top teams.

As they join 600 elite teams from around the globe, we wish Liam, Tameem, Israel, Imaan, Devrin, Le-Roy, and Craig an unforgettable experience, filled with innovation, collaboration, and excitement. May they showcase their exceptional skills, learn from their peers, and inspire others with their love for STEM (Science Technology, Engineering & Mathematics).

We are proud to see Astrovo embody the spirit of innovation and problem-solving, and we look forward to hearing about their achievements in Houston!

Astrovo will depart for Houston tomorrow, Saturday, 12 April and return on 24 April 2025. The competition will be held from 15 - 19 April 2025. They also plan to visit the Johnson Space Center and Texas Southern University.

The team thanked their sponsors, Stellenbosch University, CAMST, Sakhikamva Foundation, Stream Laboratory and Michelin South Africa for their financial contributions.

Western Cape Minister of Education, David Maynier, said:

“Driving excellence in STEM subjects is vital to developing the skills needed for economic growth, and will better position our learners to succeed in their post-school careers in the future economy. We are delighted that we have a top team from our province representing us in the competition, and I wish them the very best as they showcase their talent next week!”

Good luck to Astrovo!
