Oakley House School visits Education Museum in Wynberg
Grade 4 learners at Oakley House School enjoyed an outing to the Centre for Conservation Education where they learnt what it was like to be part of a Victorian classroom set in 1900.
The learners role-played 'a day in the life of' and explored how things have changed in schools over the last hundred years. They enjoyed the experience, but all agreed they would rather be in school today than in 1900!
The Centre for Conservation Education in Wynberg has Africa’s only museum dedicated solely to education. This museum was established in 1989 to foster environmental and heritage consciousness among learners and teachers.
The Centre falls under the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) and provides a variety of Environmental Education lessons and programmes around the environment for schools. They also provide enrichment experiences that cannot be replicated in the classroom. Lessons are curriculum-based, relevant, activity-centred and fun.
While “When Great-Granny / Grandpa was at school” is one of their most popular lessons, the museum has a lot more to offer.
