Career Awareness Open Day
On 21 June 2018, Grade 11 learners from Technical High Schools participated in a Career Awareness Open Day that was organised by the Apprenticeship Game Changer team.
The main aim of the Open Day was for learners to visit companies for a day in order to gain exposure to the workplace and, in particular, to technical and vocational jobs. We believe this will assist in changing learners’ perceptions of technical and vocational career paths and provide guidance them when making decisions on subject choices and further studies after school.
A number of companies participated in our Open Day, including Mercedes Benz, Imperial, Isipani Construction, redPanda Software, Swartland Windows and Doors, African Skills Village, Standard Profil, as well as Vredenburg and Oudtshoorn municipalities.
The Apprenticeship team plans to organise a second Open Day for Grade 9 learners in Technical High Schools that will take place in September.
