Despite the delays in many of the RSEP projects due to the national shutdown and COVID-19 regulations a few projects have been completed and other projects are progressing well.
Touwsrivier: Soccer Field
Status: Complete
A 5-side-soccer field has been completed in Steenvliet, the low income area in Touwsrivier. The official opening is planned for October 2020
Saldanha Bay (Diazville): Cottager park
Status: under construction
Construction of a recreation and sport facility on Cottager Park, Diazville has commenced.
Vredenburg (Witteklip): Container Box Park
Status: under construction
Construction of a Container Box Park business hub has commenced.
Vredenburg (Wesbank): pedestrian walkways
Status: complete
The last phase of the pedestrian walkways has been completed in September.
Vredenburg (Wesbank): Play area
Status: under construction
Preparation work for a children play-area has commenced. Equipment will be installed during November/December 2020.
Porterville: Pedestrian walkways/ ablution facilities/ trading stalls
Status: under construction
The project includes 10 Market stalls, ablution facilities, a pedestrian walkway with lighting from the lower income area to the CBD with small pedestrian bridge. The project is expected to be completed by the end of October 2020.
Prince Albert: Thusong centre and government facilities
Status: planning
Tenders were invited for the extension of the Thusong centre and government facilities in Prince Albert, bringing services and facilities much closer to the marginalised communities. A contractor will be on-site during November 2020 and completion is expected towards the second half of 2021.
Plettenberg Bay: New Horizons Public Square
Status: Construction
Plettenberg Bay: The New Horizons Public Square will be completed in early November 2020. The site is located adjacent the New Horizons community hall and Formosa Primary School. The project design includes an amphitheatre, open court, community garden, seating areas, drop off, new walkways, lighting and a 10-thousand-liter rainwater tank.
