Opening of Splash Park in Vredenburg

6 December 2018

Thursday 6 December 2018 saw the long-awaited opening of the Splash Park along Kootjieskloof Road in Louwville, Vredenburg. The children could not wait for the Mayor to switch on the pumps – they thoroughly enjoyed the water cascades, especially in the West Coast with harsh, windy conditions with a low average rain fall.

The Splash Park was already completed during July the previous year, but as a result of the serious drought experienced in the Western Cape the Park could only open 18 months later after much needed rain gave some relief to the drought crisis. In future the park will use borehole water which will make it less dependent on municipal water. In addition to the splash features, provision has also been made for shade canopies for parents watching their children play, change rooms, an “Active Box” with a small shop/kiosk, and other related services.
