Department strengthens competitiveness and capacity of emerging contractors
On 11 September 2026, the Department of Infrastructure under the auspices of the EPWP: Contractor Development Programme awarded certificates of completion of accredited training to Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Grade 1 and 2 contractors at a ceremony in Bellville.
The ceremony marks the completion of the two groups who participated in the Contractor Development Programme’s accredited Structured Training which seeks to strengthen the capacity and competitiveness of emerging contractors in the engineering and built environment sector through targeted skills development and business support initiatives. This will enable contractors to compete effectively and independently in the open market. The Structured Training is an accredited eight-week programme that takes place in five consecutive days over eight months.
The Department awarded certificates to 36 contractors who have successfully completed the programme in Cape Winelands, Paarl and the Cape Metro. The Paarl contractors underwent training from 17 November 2025 to 9 July 2026 with ACS Training Pty Ltd as their training provider. The Cape Metro contractors underwent training from 26 January 2026 to 11 September 2026 with Allina Francis SA Pty Ltd as their training provider.
Minister Simmers applauded the hard work of these contractors.
