The second conference was held at the Century City Conference Centre on 17 November 2016. The conference focus was on the ‘The Future of Events', and included 150 event sector stakeholders.
Opening and Welcome Adress
The second annual Events Incubation Conference took place at the Century City Conference Centre on 17 November 2016. The theme of the conference was “The Future of Events”.
The conference was opened by Mr Paul Kay who was also the MC for the day and a Welcoming address was delivered by MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport Western Cape, Ms Anroux Marias.

The Cape Of Great Events: Past, Present and Beyond
Dr Laurine Platzky talks about the history of Events in the Western Cape and how Government became a partner in growing the sector. She also highlight the roll of the Integrated Events Strategy of Cape Town and the Western Cape in building on the successes of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Mr Tim Harris goes into the future of Event Support in the Western Cape and highlights how the Event Economy is and will continue to be a key driver to the Western Cape. He goes on to illustrate the measures taken to boost Events in the Western Cape.

Event Models and Level of Maturity: Expansion, Contraction, Maintenance and Collaboration
Ms Frankie Murrey from Open Book Festival, Dr Leshni Shah from Design Indaba, Ms Kati Csak from the ABSA Cape Epic and, Mr Jermaine Craig from Independent Media Group discuss the different growth phases of events and hove evens and event organisers constantly need to adapt to stay competitive. The panel is chaired by Mr Rashid Toefy from MCI South Africa.

Event Pitching Competition 2016
Four events finalists pitched to receive support to the value of R50 000.00 in the annual Events Pitching Competition. The judging panel comprised, Mr Dunisani Chabalala: DAC, Ms Rhode Snyman: KKNK, Ms Jay Douwes: Cape Town Carnival, and Mr Nkosekhaya Lala: WCG. Each event was given 8 minutes to present their event.

Dr Brendan Knott (UCT) chairs a panel discussion on the evolving nature of event sponsorship in a time where corporate marketing budgets are constantly shrinking. Mr David Bellairs (Cape Town Cycle Tour) discusses the need for aligning your event brand to our sponsors. Mr Dan Davis (Coca-Cola Peninsula Beverages) discusses how events should cater to the specific needs of sponsors. Mr Willem Breytenbach (Lumico) looks at positioning an event as a marketing vehicle for sponsors.
