Sport Funding
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) annually empowers sport federations in the Western Cape to support talent identification and development.
Note that DCAS doesn't fund individual athletes. The department only funds the Western Cape and District sport federations and DCAS programmes.
To apply for funding you need to comply with all the relevant requirements. Please complete the online application form by clicking here.

Information on High Performance Funding
Athletes are supported through the high performance programme ( formerly known as Ad-Hoc Funding), which is a funding system initiated by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), designated to sport participants selected to represent South Africa competitively at an international level.
The minimum criteria for a participant to be eligible for High Performance Programme Funding ( formerly know as Ad-hoc funding) is:
- The participant (s) needs to be based in the Western Cape and should be selected through the Western Cape based federation.
- The tournament which the participant (s) applied for needs to be validated by SASCOC, for which proof must be submitted.
- The participant (s) needs to be awarded Protea Colours by SASCOC for the specified tournament, for which proof must be submitted.
- The federation needs to be recognised by their provincial/district sport council, for which proof must be submitted.
Federations can submit formal applications on behalf of the participants to the department for the attention of Agnetha Langenhoven, email: Agnetha.Langenhoven@westerncape.gov.za or call: 021 483 9652
The documentation serves as evidence and proof of the support and opportunities that are provided to Western Cape based athletes to compete at international competitions. It is also required to give access to information as the department continuously receives several requests on this type of funding.
