Sport Awards

Every year since 1996, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of committed Western Cape sportspeople in a variety of categories at the annual Sport Awards.

Sport Legends

Sport Legends

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) is proud to acknowledge and honour legends, heroes and icons who have made a significant contribution to the development, transformation and growth of sport in South Africa and, more specifically, in the Western Cape.

Cultural Awards

Cultural Affairs Awards

The Western Cape Cultural Affairs Awards are hosted annually by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) to recognise and celebrate the cultural, linguistic and heritage excellence in the province. The occasion is a vital opportunity to proudly showcase the diversity of the province’s cultural landscape.

Safer initiation

Safer Initiation

The Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) recognises the importance of cultural traditional practices. As a cultural rite of passage, male initiation illustrates the transition from boyhood to manhood. There are two seasons in the Western Cape for this noble tradition. Each year winter initiation takes place from May to July and the summer season is from November to January.

Arts and Culture funding

We annually support individuals, groups and organisations involved in arts and culture projects by providing funding. The allocation of funding is guided by funding policy.

Sport funding

Sport Funding

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) annually empowers sport federations in the Western Cape to support talent identification and development. Please note that DCAS does not fund individual athletes. The department only funds the Western Cape and District sport federations and DCAS programmes.
