Premier Winde and Minister Marais host Spar Proteas before Netball World Cup
On Monday, 17 July 2023, Western Cape Premier Alan Winde and Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, hosted the Spar Proteas Netball team at Leeuwenhof to wish the team all the best as they prepare to compete in the Netball World Cup 2023.
The World Cup is being held on African soil for the first time, with all matches to be played at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC). The tournament will see 16 teams from across the world competing, with many of the teams having arrived in Cape Town over the past weekend.
Proteas Captain Bongi Msomi thanked the Premier and Minister Marais for the support shown to the team. “ It has been great to see the support for netball growing over the past weeks. We will do our best to keep the trophy in South Africa.” she said.
Minister Marais encouraged the team to keep shining: “The people of the Western Cape and South Africa are fully behind you and we cannot wait to see you in action. You have created a renewed interest in netball and you legacy will continue long after the tournament.” she said.
The Netball World Cup starts on 28 July and South Africa will play their first match against Wales on that day. We call on everyone to get behind our national team and show your support!
