Minister Marais congratulates triumphant Western Cape Summer Games team
Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais has congratulated the Western Cape team for retaining the trophy and ending in first place at the South African National Schools Summer Games Championship, which was held in Johannesburg this week.
Team Western Cape’s contingent consisted of 157 school-going athletes, 17 managers, 18 coaches, 23 support staff, as well as one doctor and five physiotherapists. They competed against the other provinces in Basketball, Cricket, Goalball, Kgati, Gymnastics, Morabaraba, Rugby 7's, Table Tennis and Softball.
"Our team did us proud. They participated in the best tradition of sportsmanship and came out tops for the second year running. This victory will add further momentum to the Western Cape's quest to be South Africa's sporting capital. Congratulations to every athlete, every coach, every official and every supporter who ensured the festive season started on a winning note for the Western Cape," Minister Marais said.
The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport continues supporting our province’s athletes in gaining access to platforms where they can compete and reach new heights in their chosen sporting code.
