Food waste has been flagged as a serious global concern, with implications for resource efficiency, food security and lost economic value. In order to build momentum in the Western Cape, the 110% Green Food Forward project will be running a series of food chain tours aimed at facilitating discussion, learning and the sharing of best practice, ideas and resources.
As part of the Eden Tour, 110% Green will be visiting various production, processing, packaging, storage, waste handling and food exchange activities and facilities in the towns of George, Mossel Bay and GrootBrak. These include a dairy and fruit farm, cheese factory and learning about biofuels.
The Tour will be attended by various food and food waste related organisations, companies, forums, industry associations, research institutions, agri-producers, food processors, distributors, retailers and waste handlers from the Eden area and relevant stakeholders from Cape Town.
