The 110% Green: Smart Innovation on Tour initiative aims to carry through the ‘Green Economy Working for the Poor’ theme by showcasing innovators and their work and encourage government and business leaders to support the development of green innovations in the Western Cape.
Smart Innovation on Tour is a project to showcase innovations and innovators in the Western Cape. The Tour has two objectives:
- To raise awareness amongst Western Cape Government leaders and business leaders of green-related innovations in the province, and the potential of such innovations to support the growth of the emerging green economy in the province.
- To encourage the participating leaders to agree to new, practical measures that will support the development and commercialisation of innovations under the theme, making the 'Green Economy Work for the Poor'.
The Tour covered the Cape Metropolitan and Cape Winelands regions over two days in the middle of July 2013. Four different tours of innovation were organised with selected participants partaking in two tours each day.
Two events were also convened as part of the tour. At the end of the first day a dinner, hosted by the Premier of the Western Cape, was held with inspiring and unique presentations by leading experts in the area of innovation. The second day concluded the Tour with a Open Forum at the Graduate School of Business with participants being invited to take up the challenge to support innovation.
