On other broad issues, Eskom’s Regulatory Clearing Account (RCA) application for the first year of the Third Multi-Year Price Determination (MYPD3) period (2013/14 financial year) was submitted to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA). Late January NERSA announced cancelation of public hearing in three provinces (Free State (Bloemfontein), Mpumalanga (Nelspruit), and Limpopo (Polokwane) which were scheduled to take place on 28 Jan, 1 Feb, and 3 Feb 2016 respectively. This was due to no interested parties registered to present at the hearing. Meanwhile, ESKOM has announced that NERSA had approved an annual average price increase of 12.69% for 2015/16, which is made up of the 8% annual price increase approved in the original MYPD 3 decision and an additional 4.69% as allowed through the revenue clearing account (RCA) mechanism which forms part of the NERSA regulatory methodology. Please check the 2015/16 Tariff information for more information on this as provided by Eskom. The tariff increase for 2015/16 as approved by NERSA will be implemented on 1 April 2015 for Eskom direct customers and on 1 July 2015 for municipalities, read more.
