As part of 110% Green’s aim to create a strong base of organisation involved in the Green Economy, new Flagships are always being signed up. The newest organisation to become part of our dynamic network is Greyton Transition Town. Part of Greyton TT's commitment to 110% Green is to start vegetable gardens in the local schools, provide training to emerging entrepreneurs and assist in creating employment through recycling. Their full commitment statement can be found on the Flagships page.
In order to welcome Greyton TT to 110% Green, Jenny Cargill was present at their second annual Trash 2 Treasure festival. As described by Nicky Vernon of Greyton TT: The festival is the showcase for Greyton Transition Town's on-going Trash2Treasure programme which seeks to change mindsets about trash - how we create it and how we deal with it. The day was kicked off the festival by the handing over of their flag signed by the Premier to Nicky.

The festival brought around 400 people to the Green Park which is slowly transforming the old Greyton dumpsite into an open green space. Festival goers engaged in range of workshops around upcycling and recycling, leather stitching, composting and retreading tires. A key activity at the festival was the Eco-Brick Challenge which saw children of all ages stuffing “bottle bricks” (2L plastic bottles stuffed with trash) which were then used as alternative currency for discounts, food items and prizes at the various stalls. The Eco-Bricks will now be used in the building of the Red Cross Youth Centre as well as low-income housing models (as set out in Greyton TT’s commitment statement).

110% Green looks forward to seeing the growth of the exciting projects Greyton TT has planned and an even bigger and better Trash2Treasure festival next year!
