On Tuesday – 16th of August, The Western Cape Government (Department of Economic Development and Tourism) hosted the 110% Green annual event – under the theme “Growing Green Economies”. The event aimed at hosting a space to help build relationships between key stakeholders in the green economy. Stakeholders are the individuals or organisations that have an interest in developing the green ecosystem. The stakeholders ranged from social & environmental entrepreneurs from private sector, activists, banks, academics, angel investors, mentors and public officials. Building this much needed ecosystem will allow more communication and thus help similar companies share goals and network to distribute particular resources and skills in the Green Economy.
“Cape Town is aiming to be the green economic hub of Africa” – said minister of economic opportunities – minister Alan Winde. This is important as South Africa is emitting the highest amounts of carbon emissions in Africa and is considered one of the big players in the contribution to world-wide global warming. If the 110% Green are able to allow more people and organisations in W/C to access the aforementioned points surrounding a green economy we will then be able to build the critical relationships needed for the green economy to scale.
