The Minister of Local Government, Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Anton Bredell, today met with civil society groups to communicate provincial government's initiatives and discuss partnerships with non-governmental organisations. Minister Bredell emphasised the need to prevent an outbreak of xenophobic violence and that the focus of government and civil society interventions should be on risk reduction.
The meeting was attended by representatives of 48 organisations. The various NGOs present shared the valuable work that they are currently doing in communities. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment between provincial government and civil society organisations to work together in partnership through close coordination and the pooling of resources.
