Visit the WCG eCentre in Clanwilliam

The WCG eCentre in Clanwilliam has made an impact on the lives of the community. Access to information and communication technologies (ICT) has brought with it an opportunity for personal growth and socio-economic upliftment.

The Clanwilliam WCG eCentre, which opened in March 2015 and launched in September 2015, is perfectly located in the Sederville area, which is surrounded by creches, and primary and high schools. It’s situated in the Kathy Johnson Thusong Centre and serves between 700 and 1000 users monthly.

The unemployment rate is very high in Clanwilliam, where most households have a low income. The eCentre provides relief because all the services are free, and they also help with searching for vacancies, typing CVs or any other documents, and scanning and making copies. Students use the eCentre to do their school projects with the assistance of the staff and other users and use it for municipal service and social services.

According to the eCentre manager, Pausha, the eCentre is a success because it helped many community members like Lene Desnan Simmerie achieve their goals. With Pausha’s encouragement and support, Lene was able to pursue her studies at UNISA through NSFAS funding, and Pausha assisted with all the applications.

The eCentre assisted users in applying for jobs on the WCG job portal, updating CVs, and assisting with cover letters and Z83 forms for vacancies at different departments, and 98% of the users invited for interviews were successful. The eCentre has also helped change the lives of 2 women they assisted with basic computer training, eLearning and ICDL training. Cape Nature employed one woman in an administration position, and Citrusdal Hospital employed the other as a household aid.

Clanwillaim cannot exist today without the eCentre. Continuous assistance ensures that the doors remain open.

More about Clanwilliam

Clanwilliam is located about 200km north of Cape Town in the Olifants River valley and is the seat of the Cederberg Local municipality. With a population of about 10 000, Clanwilliam is a safe town where citizens can walk to any of the amenities and not fear being a victim of crime.
