Western Cape Provincial Treasury receives continental recognition for eProcurement system
The Western Cape Provincial Treasury has been recognised for its leadership in public sector procurement innovation, receiving the AfCFTA SCM Architect: Market Integration Award at the 2026 African Supply Chain Confederation (ASCON) Conference.
The award acknowledges the Provincial Treasury's eProcurement Solution (ePS), which has modernised the Western Cape Government's procurement processes, improved transparency, expanded market access for suppliers and strengthened accountability in public spending.
The recognition also reflects more than 20 years of continuous procurement reform and innovation within the Western Cape Government.
The ePS, which was developed and managed by the Provincial Treasury in-house, is an online platform through which provincial departments and public entities can invite quotations, receive supplier responses and manage procurement processes.
The system has been an important part of the Provincial Treasury's efforts to reduce red tape, improve access to government procurement opportunities and strengthen the quality of procurement information. Over the past two decades, the Provincial Treasury has consistently invested in strengthening procurement capability, leveraging digital technologies and improving data-driven decision-making. The eProcurement Solution has become a key enabler in this journey, helping to simplify access to government opportunities for suppliers, reduce administrative burdens and provide more reliable procurement information to support oversight and accountability.
Western Cape Minister of Finance, Deidré Baartman, said "This recognition reflects the expertise, innovation and commitment within Provincial Treasury to continuously improve how public money is managed. The award is not only recognition of the eProcurement Solution, but also of more than two decades of sustained effort to modernise public procurement in the Western Cape. It also demonstrates how the Western Cape Government continues to leverage technology and innovation to create a fair, transparent and accessible procurement environment that makes it easier to do business with the government while strengthening accountability for public spending."
Minister Baartman congratulated the Provincial Treasury and stakeholders in the Department of the Premier who have contributed to the development and success of the eProcurement platform. “We are proud to see work developed by our Provincial Treasury receiving recognition at a continental level. This is a well-deserved achievement.”
