Tomorrow, Wednesday 10 November 2021, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Daylin Mitchell, will hand over bicycles to the Open Streets organization in Grassy Park.
The handover is part of the Provincial Sustainable Transport Programme (PSTP) of the Department of Transport and Public Works. PSTP was initiated by the Department to support the development and implementation of sustainable transport systems in the Western Cape.
The Western Cape Department of Transport and Public Works started distributing bicycles in November 2020. The goal was to distribute up to 400 bicycles to community-based organisations in the six Western and Southern COVID-19 hotspot areas of the Western Cape. These areas include Atlantis, Du Noon, Langa, Grassy Park and surroundings, Masiphumelele and Retreat.
This project aims to remove transport barriers and help local community organisations to maximise their reach and better meet the needs of the people they serve.
