In the Western Cape, Provincial Traffic Officers work tirelessly 365 days a year to keep road users safe and uphold the rule of law on our roads.
Between 13 and 19 May 2024, Western Cape Provincial Traffic Officers conducted 275 integrated roadblocks, vehicle check points and speed control operations. Our hard-working officers stopped and checked 32 044 vehicles across the Western Cape.
A total of 8 415 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. Thirteen vehicles were impounded and 129 were discontinued for being unroadworthy.
A total of 249 speeding offences were recorded, with the following highest speeds:
- 160km/h in a 120km/h zone
- 139km/h in a 100km/h zone
- 119Km/h in an 80km/h zone
- 101km/h in a 60km/h zone
A total of 99 arrests were made for the following offences:
- 82 x driving under the influence of alcohol
- 2 x speeding
- 5 x reckless and negligent driving
- 1 x goods overloading
- 6 x possession of fraudulent documentation
- 1 x failing to furnish information
- 1 x failing to comply with a lawful order
- 1 x possession of an illegal substance
A total of 17 crashes and 18 fatalities were recorded, including:
- 2 x drivers
- 1 x individual who fell off vehicle
- 3 x passengers
- 12 x pedestrians
