The Provincial Minister of Mobility, Daylin Mitchell, will tomorrow, Thursday 8 December 2022, reopen the B97 minibus taxi route between Bellville and Paarl.
In July 2021, Minister Mitchell invoked his powers in term of section 91 of the National Land Transport act (Act no.5 of 2009) to close the route following several incidents of violent conflict and the loss of lives.
After months of negotiations, an agreement was reached by the primary associations and CATA and CODETA regions in respect of minibus-taxi operations on the route. All parties agreed, in line with the arbitration award, to co-exist and to provide bi-directional services.
Tomorrow, Minister Mitchell will issue new operating licences to taxi operators in respect of route B97 to create a more equitable balance between the demand and supply.
