Results from Provincial Traffic Services – 29 January to 4 February 2024

The Western Cape Provincial Traffic Officers conducted 227 integrated roadblocks, vehicle check points and speed control operations; and stopped and checked 23 756 vehicles between 29 January and 4 February 2024 across the Western Cape.

A total of 6 297 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. Fourteen vehicles were impounded and 93 were discontinued for being unroadworthy.

A total of 296 speeding offences were recorded, with the following highest speeds:

  • 160km/h in a 120km/h zone
  • 154km/h in a 100km/h zone
  • 119Km/h in an 80km/h zone
  • 99km/h in a 70km/h zone
  • 94km/h in a 60km/h zone

A total of 63 arrests were made for the following offences:

  • 36 x driving under the influence of alcohol
  • 1 x speeding
  • 3 x reckless and negligent driving
  • 6 x goods overloading
  • 10 x possession of fraudulent documentation
  • 1 x bribery
  • 2 x resisting arrest
  • 1 x undocumented person
  • 1 x possession of illegal substance
  • 1 x possession of abalone
  • 1 x operating an unroadworthy vehicle

A total of 23 crashes and 25 fatalities were recorded, including:

  • 7 x drivers
  • 1 x motorcyclist
  • 4 x passengers
  • 13 x pedestrians
