Keeping each other safe on the roads is about developing permanent vigilance and taking constant care.
Between 22 and 28 April 2024, Western Cape Provincial Traffic Officers conducted 253 integrated roadblocks, vehicle check points and speed control operations. Our hard-working officers stopped and checked 30 163 vehicles across the Western Cape.
A total of 7 129 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. Eight vehicles were impounded and 101 were discontinued for being unroadworthy.
A total of 210 speeding offences were recorded, with the following highest speeds:
- 164km/h in a 120km/h zone
- 144km/h in a 100km/h zone
- 114km/h in an 80km/h zone
- 99km/h in a 60km/h zone
A total of 53 arrests were made for the following offences:
- 36 x driving under the influence of alcohol
- 4 x reckless and negligent driving
- 2 x speeding
- 2 x goods overloading
- 3 x possession of fraudulent documentation
- 1 x unlawful possession of ammunition
- 3 x undocumented persons
- 1 x wilfully interfering with the flow of traffic
- 1 x bribery
A total of 19 crashes and 19 fatalities were recorded, including:
- 4 x drivers
- 1 x motorcyclist
- 3 x passengers
- 11 x pedestrians
