To all road users, please take care and do your part to stay safe while traveling. Our Provincial Traffic officers are deployed across the Western Cape’s road network, around the clock, every day of the year. These dedicated officers make our province safer and they get results.
Between 20 and 26 May 2024, Western Cape Provincial Traffic Officers conducted 234 integrated roadblocks, vehicle check points and speed control operations. Our hard-working officers stopped and checked 28 495 vehicles across the Western Cape.
A total of 7 132 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. Thirteen vehicles were impounded and 113 were discontinued for being unroadworthy.
A total of 235 speeding offences were recorded, with the following highest speeds:
- 180km/h in a 120km/h zone
- 144km/h in a 100km/h zone
- 114Km/h in an 80km/h zone
- 84km/h in a 60km/h zone
A total of 55 arrests were made for the following offences:
- 37 x driving under the influence of alcohol
- 3 x speeding
- 3 x reckless and negligent driving
- 2 x goods overloading
- 9 x possession of fraudulent documentation
- 1 x obstructing or hindering an authorised officer in the execution of their duty
A total of 19 crashes and 21 fatalities were recorded, including:
- 4 x drivers
- 1 x motorcycle pillion rider
- 2 x motorcyclists
- 4 x passengers
- 10 x pedestrians
