The Department of Transport and Public Works is on track to complete a R17.1 million project at Bothasig High School to supply and install 6 mobile classrooms, 2 general science labs, 1 double classroom, 3 administration facilities, 2 ablutions of 9 m2 each, 1 feeding kitchen, 3 storage containers, paved walkways, a parking area, a play area, fencing, benches and water fountains.
The project aimed to meet the need for additional space for learners identified by the management of the Metro North Education District.
Construction of the additional classrooms commenced on 28 January 2022 and will be completed on 8 April 2022.
Due to the urgency and the rapid rate of delivery of the mobiles programme, consultation is not always possible prior to construction. However, the community was informed of the project prior to site handover and the appointment of local labour was arranged. Construction started later than anticipated due to a due diligence study that needed to be undertaken to ensure that the were no environmental impact assessments applicable to the site.
