Mobility Minister welcomes new Minister of Transport ahead of critical Prasa meeting
Western Cape Minister of Mobility Ricardo Mackenzie has extended his congratulations to the new National Minister of Transport, Ms Sindisiwe Chikunga.
Minister Mackenzie said, “I am pleased to welcome a seasoned colleague with extensive experience in the transport portfolio and mobility sector. We look forward to working with Minister Chikunga to get the Central railway Line in Cape Town up and running as a matter of critical urgency for our commuters. There are complex challenges to navigate, but I believe that with committed collaboration we will identify solutions and a way forward.”
He went on to say, “This coming Friday, I will be meeting with Prasa, Premier Alan Winde and Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis to assess the status of the Central railway Line, and discuss next steps. Since my recent appointment as Minister of Mobility, I have engaged with various role players to understand the issues and sticking points. We cannot waste any time in making progress. People need to be able to get to work on safe, reliable and affordable public transport. This will enable growth of the economy for creating jobs and dignified opportunities in our province.”
