Department of Transport and Public Works (DTPW) has completed a R34m project to build a new Klapmuts Primary School and a new Klapmuts High School on one erf using mobile classrooms.
Construction began on 3 May and the project was completed a mere three months later on 8 August 2022. The Department uses a mobile classroom approach when it is necessary to rapidly create space for the accommodation of unplaced Western Cape Education Department (WCED) learners. The project created 20 short-term Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) employment and skills training opportunities for members of the local community.
The Klapmuts Primary School mobile school project involved the supply and installation of eight mobile classrooms, one double classroom, two administration facilities, two 9-metre ablution facilities, a feeding kitchen, three storage containers, paved walkways, a parking area, fencing, a jungle gym, a covered shelter, benches, and water fountains. The Klapmuts High School project involved the supply and installation of six mobile classrooms, two general science labs, one double classroom, three administration facilities, two 9-metre ablution facilities, a feeding kitchen, three storage containers, paved walkways, a parking area, fencing, benches, and water fountains.
The facilities have been handed over to the WCED to meet the needs of unplaced learners in Klapmuts.
