Upgrade of MR168 (Baden Powell Drive) between Lynedoch (km 5.88) and MR177 (km 10.62)
The project is the final phase of the upgrade of the R310 – Baden Powell Drive. The main objective of this final phase is the dualling of MR168, and with the completion of this Contract, MR168 will be a dual carriageway from the intersection of MR177 (Polkadraai Road) up to the interchange at the N2.
The critical activity on this project is the construction of various major structures and the subsequent roadworks. Notable structures on this project are:
- the Vlottenburg Road-over-Rail (RoR) Bridge,
- the Vlottenburg underpass,
- the Sanddrift Major Culvert and
- the Vredenheim underpass.
The 9.0 m high lateral support is completed and will be visible at Vlottenburg underpass and RoR Bridge where it retains the existing road. A temporary widening (bypass) has been constructed to accommodate traffic and was planned to be completed over a section where the road reserve width is limited and will be adjacent to a retaining wall structure.
