On 17 February 2017 the office was invited by the Department of Community Safety to host a delegation from Bavaria, Germany.
The Bavarian Delegation consisted of 21 professionals ranging from various disciplines, within the German government. The delegation was headed by Dr Ingeborg Berggreen-Merkel.
The Bavarian team was keenly interested in work of the Western Cape Police Ombudsman, and Advocate Pikoli readily answered all questions posed. The issue of oversight fatigue was once again raised, with Advocate Pikoli noting once more, that there can never be too much oversight, as given the power which SAPS official have, at times of life and death, it is important that oversight is conducted on all levels to ensure that the Police Service remain responsive to the plights of the community.
The office thoroughly enjoyed the visit, and hopes to welcome more delegations of this nature in future.
