Project Description
C958.04: Repair and Resurfacing of Victoria Road (Mr103) Km 2.1 to Km 4.75, Near Llandudno.
Construction Progress
Completed 84% of the patch repairs to the existing road and 27% of the resurfacing of the roadway.
Possible Delays
Weather | Rain will cause delays as patch repairs and resurfacing cannot be done on a wet road surface. Friday’s rain was a typical example.
Materials | This should not cause any delays unless there is a breakdown at the asphalt plant.
Road and Access Closures |
The laying down of the premix overlay continues on a daily basis. There is still shoulder resurfacing to be done on both the northbound and southbound carriageways before the main carriageway between the shoulders is resurfaced. During the shoulder resurfacing operations, two-way traffic will be maintained by making use of the opposite carriageway shoulder with lanes defined by means of lane delineators. This will also have the effect of marginally slowing the traffic down. Once both shoulders have been resurfaced, the balance of the carriageway between the shoulders will be resurfaced. Once this operation begins it will necessitate stop/go lane closures that will be in place between 09:00 and 16:00 Monday to Thursday and 09:00 to 15:00 on Friday. Once the retaining wall and reinstatement of the roadway at the slip near the Llandudno turnoff is complete, patch repairs and resurfacing over that section of the road will take place. |

Interesting Facts
The UTFC overlay that we are applying to the roadway stands for Ultra-Thin Friction Course. Ultra-Thin Friction Courses (UTFC) are specialised asphalt wearing courses designed specifically for application as cost effective thin surfacing or re-sealing layers with enhanced long-term friction/skid resistance and sealing properties. UTFC is ultimately a very thin asphalt layer paved at between 15 mm and 20 mm thick whilst spraying a thick tack-coat to the road surface ahead of it, all in one pass.
