Sod-Turning Ceremony For The New Green Point Stadium

A combined sod-turning and blessing of the soil ceremony will take place at 12:30 tomorrow, Tuesday, 20 March 2007 on the Metropolitan Golf Club site on Green Point Common where the new Green Point stadium is to be built. Representatives of various faith groups will say prayers, followed by addresses by the joint venture contractor, Murray & Roberts and WBHO, Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool and Cape Town Mayor Helen Zille. The Premier and the Mayor will then turn the first sod where the 68 000 seater, multi-purpose stadium is to be built in time to host a semi-final 2010 World Cup match.
