Minister Tertuis Simmers To Handover 16 Houses To Rooidakke Residents

Tomorrow, 27 June 2019, Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Tertuis Simmers will hand over 16 houses to Rainbow Housing Project beneficiaries in Rooidakke. The oldest beneficiary to be handed over their keys tomorrow is 65 year-old Mr David Williams.

This project was initially an Upgrading of Informal Settlements Project (UISP) until 2011 when beneficiaries requested Theewaterskloof Municipality to build them houses. In June 2013 the Department of Human Settlements approved the municipality’s submission for funding to build houses. Construction commenced in September 2013. 

This Rainbow Housing Project consists of 1169 houses of which 694 have been handed over to beneficiaries. The contractor is currently busy with phase 5 of the project. The total budget of this project is more than R1.2 million.
