Minister Anroux Marias welcomes major Stilbaai drug bust

23 July 2024

Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety Anroux Marais welcomes the major drug bust made by the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Stilbaai over the past weekend.

Members of the public alerted SAPS members to suspicious activity at the Stilbaai harbour. On their way to the harbour, officers saw a vehicle towing a rubber dinghy fitting the description provided by the community members. Cocaine to the value of R252 million was subsequently confiscated and two suspects arrested.
“I welcome the prompt and effective actions by the Stilbaai SAPS, and the vigilance of the public. When the SAPS and the public collaborate, we can beat crime in the Western Cape,” said Minister Marais.

The Minister added, “We cannot win the war against crime alone. We need the help of the public, which is the eyes and ears in our communities. The law-abiding residents of our province are a vital part of our crime-fighting and prevention efforts. I want to thank the residents who took the time and effort to report what they saw to the authorities. The drug trade that harms too many people in our province has been dealt a significant blow thanks to you.”
