Metro Police discover City Dagga Lab

5 October 2009
On Monday, 05 October the Metro Police specialised unit, the Drug Busters, working together with a similar unit from the South African Police Services, detected a drug laboratory in Gardens, Cape Town.

The operation started just after seven the evening when the officers executed a search warrant at a house in Vredehoek where they discovered and confiscated 15 large jars of high quality dagga with an estimated street value of R270 000, 1 kg of dagga powder with an estimated street value of R100 000 and R70 000 in cash. A 32-year old woman was arrested.

The suspect then led the officers to a house in Gardens where a dagga processing laboratory was discovered. The laboratory was hidden under the kitchen floor and the entrance was a trap door which was concealed by the kitchen carpet. The estimated value of the equipment and chemicals found in the laboratory was R120 000.

Metro Police Chief, Rob Young, said: "The department welcomes this breakthrough and I want to praise all the agencies involved in this operation for their outstanding work."
