Media Alert: Western Cape Education Department to Outline Progress Made in its Strategic Objectives

2 December 2013

On Tuesday, 3 December, Minister Donald Grant will be briefing the media on the progress made in achieving the strategic objectives set by the Western Cape Government for education.

Four years ago, in November 2009, the Western Cape Provincial Government released its strategic plan for education 2010 - 2019.

The plan focuses on 10 key priority areas that aim to improve the life chances of all learners in the province through the provision of quality education.

On Tuesday, 3 December, the minister will brief the media on each of the key priority areas, providing a summary of what we have achieved so far. Given that the school year ends on Tuesday, the minister will also reflect on the year passed as well as discuss preparations for the 2014 school year.

As an open and accountable government, we are subject to review in achieving the objectives as set out in this plan. This is an opportunity for the media to question and review if and where we are meeting our targets and fulfilling the objectives that we set out to do back in 2009.

Date: 3 December 2013
Venue: The Education Ministry, 23rd floor, Sanlam Building, Golden Acre

Please see the Strategic plan update for 2009-2012. This will provide you with some background. On Tuesday, 3 December, the WCED will release an updated version – including the year 2013.
