City Traffic Officer Stabbed Seven Times

8 October 2009
A City of Cape Town traffic officer is in a serious but stable condition in the Gatesville Medi-Clinic in Athlone after being stabbed seven times. The officer, who forms part of the Department's taxi team, was attacked in the driveway of her Gugulethu home at 05:45 by two armed men who stole her service pistol.

The officer, who was in full uniform and was wearing her bullet proof vest at the time of the incident, was stabbed in the head, neck and back. Her bulletproof vest helped prevent further injuries.

No arrests have been made and the case is being investigated by Gugulethu SAPS.

''We strongly condemn this violent attack against a member of the City's uniformed staff and our thoughts and prayers are with the officer and her family, said Chief Inspector Merle Lourens, Spokesperson for City Traffic Services. "
