City Thanks Residents for Safe Guy Fawkes Night

5 November 2007
The City of Cape Town wishes to thank Capetonians for celebrating the annual Guy Fawkes last night without any adverse incidents or serious injury

A word of thanks is also due to the various law enforcement agencies that controlled and monitored the designated areas, including residential areas; to emergency medical services staff and the Disaster Risk Management volunteers who provided first aid services and facilities at the designated areas and Fire and Rescue staff who were on full alert at the City's 28 fire stations.

Compared to previous years, there was a significant drop in emergency calls as well as complaints to the various contact and emergency call centres.

Three children were admitted to the Red Cross Children's Hospital last night for firework-related minor injuries, but were all discharged after being treated.

The Disaster Risk Management Centre wishes to thank the team that assisted with the safety arrangements for Guy Fawkes as well as the City departments that worked overtime to provide clean and safe venues.
