City Celebrates Five Years of Aachen Partnership with A Spring Festival for All

The City of Cape Town is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Local Agenda 21 Partnership with the City of Aachen in Germany. This partnership was established in 2000 to promote sustainable development and incorporates local community organisations. The main aims of the partnership are implementing projects, promoting exchanges, networking and raising awareness around sustainable development issues.

As part of the five year anniversary celebrations, a Spring Festival is being held with a variety of local activities. The activities started during the school holidays with programs for the youth in Manenberg and Hout Bay. The first round of mini football tournaments between teams from Imizamo Yethu and Khayelitsha was played, with the final games to be held in Imizamo Yethu, Hout Bay on Saturday, 15 October 2005.

The main event will be a Freshlyground concert on Sunday, 23 October 2005 at the Manyanani Peace Park in Khayelitsha which will be open for all to attend. Local residents are encouraged to learn more about the activities that are happening in the city and are invited to attend any of the events.

  • Open day at Agri Business Park Philippi; Wednesday, 12 October
  • Zenzeli Bauwagen workshop for teachers in Khayelitsha; Thursday, 13 October
  • Vukuzenzele Urban Farming Association (VUFA) at the Natural and Organic Expo at CTICC; 14 - 16 October
  • Open day at Imizamo Yethu; Saturday, 15 October
  • Open Day at Manenberg Selfhelp; Saturday, 22 October
  • Freshlyground concert at Manyanani Peace Park in Khayelitsha; Sunday, 23 October
  • LA21 Civil Society Forum Event at Civic Centre; Thursday, 3 November

The City's Local Agenda 21 (LA21) Civil Society Forum event is held twice a year as a platform for local organisations to exhibit the work they do in their communities.

This is open to the public, however, participants need to RSVP for catering purposes to Grace Stead on 918 2564 or email grace.stead@capetown.gov.za
