CCTV Cameras Foil attempted Housebreaking

21 October 2009
Swift reaction and teamwork between Metro Police CCTV operators and the Central Improvement District security team led to the arrest of two people for attempted house breaking.

According to the Metro Police Deputy Chief, Yolande Faro, they were arrested after camera operators spotted them trying to force open a security gate on the corner of St. Georges and Long Market Streets in the CBD.

Central Improvement District security personnel were sent to the area and the suspects were caught with a bag of house breaking equipment and tools. They were arrested and taken to the Cape Town Central Police Station.

"Criminals are warned that "Big Brother" is watching them 24/7 and they cannot hide from the central city CCTV cameras," said Faro.
