Results from Provincial Traffic Services – 3 to 9 June 2024
Between 3 and 9 June 2024, Western Cape Provincial Traffic officers conducted 236 integrated roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints and speed control operations. Our hard-working officers stopped and checked 21 115 vehicles across the Western Cape.
A total of 5 410 fines were issued for various traffic violations ranging from driver to vehicle fitness. Nine vehicles were impounded and 88 were discontinued for being unroadworthy.
A total of 190 speeding offences were recorded, with the following highest speeds:
- 160km/h in a 120km/h zone
- 139km/h in a 100km/h zone
- 124km/h in an 80km/h zone
- 114km/h in a 70km/h zone
- 84km/h in a 60km/h zone
A total of 51 arrests were made for the following offences:
- 43 x driving under the influence of alcohol
- 1 x goods overloading
- 3 x possession of fraudulent documentation
- 1 x obstructing or hindering an authorised officer in the execution of their duty
- 1 x operating an unroadworthy vehicle
- 1 x undocumented person
- 1 x possession of an illegal substance
A total of 19 crashes and 20 fatalities were recorded, including:
- 4 x drivers
- 5 x passengers
- 11 x pedestrians
