State-of-the-Art clinics will bring wellness closer to Ravensmead and Bothasig communities
The Western Cape Government is excited to announce significant progress in the construction and upgrading of healthcare facilities in Ravensmead and Bothasig. These infrastructure projects are a testament to our commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible public healthcare that meets the growing demands of our communities.
The new Ravensmead Community Day Centre (CDC) is being built to replace the current clinic, which is no longer adequate for the area’s expanding population. Strategically located in the civic node of Ravensmead, this facility will ensure easy access for residents, including those relying on public transport. With a project budget of over R105 million, the state-of-the-art CDC will offer an extensive basket of services, including youth-friendly care, women’s health, family healthcare, chronic disease management, mental health support, oral health and dental services, emergency services, and much more. Once operational in July 2026, it will serve as a cornerstone of the community’s well-being.
In Bothasig, the existing CDC is undergoing a major upgrade and expansion to address its limited service capacity. Phase 1 of the project, currently under construction, is focused on essential service enhancements, such as an expanded pharmacy, chronic disease management, emergency care, and rehabilitation services. The total investment of this phase is nearly R23 million reflecting our dedication to providing equitable healthcare services for all residents. Practical completion for this phase is anticipated for March 2025. In addition, future infrastructure planning is underway for the Bothasig CDC for the eventual introduction of oral health and radiography services, further cementing the facility as a hub for more comprehensive primary healthcare.
These community facilities are being thoughtfully designed to bring essential health services closer to residents while creating spaces that promote health, well-being, and healing. From eco-friendly features to designs that maximise natural light and ventilation, every element of these facilities has been carefully planned to provide a safe, welcoming, healing and supportive environment for both patients and staff.
Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness, Mireille Wenger, said, "Our vision is to ensure that every resident has access to the care they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives. These projects in Ravensmead and Bothasig represent more than just infrastructure—they are investments in the future of our communities. Visiting these sites, I am very impressed by the progress they are making and potential they have to give residents greater access to healthcare services. I want to thank the clinic committees and staff for their commitment and passion in shaping these facilities, ensuring that they truly meet the needs of the people they serve. Together, we are building a foundation for a healthier tomorrow."
