On Tuesday, 1 October, Premier Helen Zille and Western Cape Health Minister Theuns Botha will launch the Western Cape Government’s Walk4Health initiative, which aims to promote a culture of wellness through encouraging the adoption of active lifestyles.
Physical inactivity is a major risk factor for a number of conditions such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension and other non-communicable diseases. Promoting healthy lifestyles is a priority for the Western Cape Government to address this challenge in order to reduce the burden of disease in the province.
Premier Zille will then participate in a community walk in the afternoon with the Hanover Park branch of the Community Health Intervention Programmes (CHIPs) run by the Sports Science Institute of South Africa (SSISA).
