Western Cape Minister of Social Development, Adv. Albert Fritz, delivered the keynote address at the launch of the China Classification Society’s (CCS) Cape Town offices, this past Friday.
The CCS is one of the major classification societies in the world, and plays a major role in shipping, shipbuilding, offshore exploration and related manufacturing industry. They render technical and engineering support and solutions to the shipping industries.
The launch was also attended by the Deputy Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China, Mrs. Libei Li, and Mr. Yansong Rong from the Chinese Embassy. Also in attendance were representatives from local and international businesses and shipping firms.
The Western Cape Provincial Government welcomes the show of confidence into the region, and further investment was encouraged by Minister Fritz who called on CCS and other firms to invest in the social development of citizens, especially youth through skills development and job creation.
The Provincial Youth Development Strategy charts a path for government, the private sector, and civil society to invest in our youth through various initiatives, such as the Youth Cafés. Minister Fritz invited firms to get involved and open opportunities for youth, by partnering with the Department of Social Development (DSD).
If we are to build a Western Cape founded in freedom, fairness, and opportunity for young people, partnerships with the private sector will remain key. We can empower the youth if we work, ‘Better Together’.
