On Wednesday, 3 February 2016, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais will deliver the keynote address at the annual provincial Cultural Affairs Awards ceremony in Paarl.
The Western Cape Cultural Affairs Awards are held annually to celebrate individuals and organisations in the Western Cape who are making a positive contribution in the Cultural Affairs sector. Awards have previously been given to organisations and individuals who have made a profound impact within the Arts, Culture, Language, Heritage, Museums, Archives, Geographical Names and Libraries sectors in the province over the years.
The nominees for 2015/2016 include:
Best Contribution to Performing Arts: Dance
Best Contribution to Performing Arts: Music
Best Contribution to the Promotion of Cultural Activities
Best New Museum Project
Best Public Library: Children’s Services
Best Large Public Library (9+ staff members)
Neville Alexander Award for the Promotion of Multilingualism
Best Heritage Project
Best Contribution to the Standardisation and/ or Public Awareness of Geographical Names
Outstanding Achievement of Women in Arts and Culture, Language, Heritage, Geographical Names, Museums, Libraries or Archives
Outstanding Achievement of Youth in Arts and Culture, Language, Heritage, Geographical Names, Museums, Libraries or Archives
Lifetime Achievement in Arts and Culture, Language, Heritage, Geographical Names, Museums, Libraries or Archives
The Programme will be directed by Katlego Maboe. Guests will be entertained with traditional music and dancers: Thandi Mandela’s Traditional Music, Art and Event Emporium and Die Nuwe Graskoue Trappers, to name a few.
