The Minister for Transport and Public Works, Robin Carlisle, has met with the Western Cape Provincial Taxi Council (WCPTC) to discuss the state of the minibus taxi industry and to further cement co-operative relations between the provincial government and the Council.
Minister Carlisle re-stated the long held provincial policy which recognizes the WCPTC as the democratically elected representative of the mini-bus taxi industry in the province.
The meeting, convened at the request of the WCPTC, resolved that:In addition, the Minister challenged the WCPTC to dramatically improve its customer service - an element of the industry in dire need of improvement according to official surveys.
Both parties agreed that the meeting strengthened relations between the Provincial Government and the minibus taxi industry.
