Western Cape Minister of Agriculture, Dr Ivan Meyer and Minister of Community Safety Adv Albert Fritz welcome the news that Western Cape police have arrested four (4) suspects in connection with the robbery on a Klapmuts farm earlier in June.
Ivan Meyer: “Now that the suspects have been arrested the judicial process must be completed as quickly as possible. Farm attacks have a direct impact on our rural economy and we should therefore do whatever we can to protect our farmers and agri workers.”
Minister Fritz reiterated the stance taken by the Western Cape Government that bail should be denied to those accused of farm attacks.
Minister Fritz: “On behalf of the Department of Community Safety, I would like to thank our dedicated, hardworking officers who worked so diligently towards the arrest of the four suspects. We reiterate our commitment to working with the police and other stakeholders in bringing criminals to book. We will continue to work with Minister Meyer and the Department of Agriculture towards making our rural communities safer.”
The Western Cape Government will be monitoring the case via its provincial watching briefs initiative, which after the recent attacks, now also focuses on serious crimes committed on our farms
