City Councillor Takes to the Streets to Experience being "Homeless"

20 November 2006
To gain first hand insight into the needs of the hundreds of people surviving on Cape Town's streets, a city councillor has decided to join the ranks of the homeless.

Cllr James Vos, Chairperson of the De Grendel Subcouncil, has decided to spend Thursday evening, 23 November 2006 in some of the areas in Goodwood frequented by displaced people.

This forms part of the "Homeless for a Day" project - a partnership between the City of Cape Town and the Lions Clubs of Parow and Goodwood - aimed at finding practical solutions to address the growing number of street people in the Cape Metropole.

Cllr Vos will be joined by officials from the City of Cape Town's Social Development Directorate, as well as social workers and members of NGOs working with the homeless.

Date: Thursday, 23 November 2006
Time: 18:00 (6pm) to 20:00 (8pm)
Venue: Starting at the Goodwood Library Gardens, Cllr Vos will proceed to the area behind Shoprite Centre in Hugo Street, and continue to Vasco Boulevard in Goodwood.

All media are welcome to join.
