Edith Stephens Wetland Park Celebrates National Health Day

2 April 2007
Edith Stephens Wetland Park, with the support of Cape Flats Nature, the City of Cape Town's Environmental Health officers and various community organisations, is hosting an Exercise and Health Day in celebration of National Health Day. The event will take place on Wednesday, 4 April 2007 at Edith Stephens Wetland Park.

The event will explore the benefits of a nature reserve for people's well-being and mental health. It will allow people to appreciate the quietness and stress-relieving aspect, by participating in yoga and aerobics classes, walking through the nature reserve and attending a Medicinal Plants workshop. The event will accommodate 40 people from the communities of Manenberg, Hanover Park, Guguletu, Nyanga and Philippi.

For the community who have never been to the site, it will open there minds to the importance of having these natural areas on their doorsteps, and for the people that have, it will be a way for them to experience the reserve in a different way.

It is important, with our stressful lifestyles, for all people to have equal opportunity to access natural areas, for them to learn, love and understand nature.

Date: 4 April 2007
Time: 10:00 to 15:00
Venue: Edith Stephens Wetland Park, Lansdowne Road, Philippi - opposite Manenberg
